about

Hodgson House

Located in a quiet street Hodgson House is a beautiful two storey home with its own garage. It's close to EVERYTHING and is within easy walking distance of the MCG, AAMI Stadium, the Tennis Centre and the wonderful Fitzroy Gardens. In fact you can walk to the city if you need to stretch your legs (only 35-40 minutes), or you can take one of two trams to the city (just 6 stops!) or another along Church Street to either Victoria Street (often called Little Vietnam) or across the mighty Yarra River (!) to trendy Chapel Street in South Yarra.

On arrival you will be greeted by a tinkling fountain. Step inside and downstairs there is a spacious entrance hall with a lovely open plan living and dining area with gas log fire. Our art and collections from our travels are much admired and there for you to enjoy. French doors open onto the private courtyard - perfect for relaxing after a day exploring. Of course there is reverse cycle air conditioning throughout.

Upstairs your generous bright and comfortable bedroom can be set up with either a king bed or two singles. Your own bathroom with separate shower, bath and toilet are right next door. (our bedroom suite and office will not be available)

In the fully equipped kitchen there is also a table to enjoy the morning sun whilst reading the papers and sipping a coffee!

The laundry has both washer and dryer and iron and ironing board

If you are driving there is a one car garage and we will also provide you with an on-street Parking Permit.

We spend our time between two homes - the other is a country retreat just an hour from Melbourne - Hazeldon House in the Macedon Ranges region.

Richmond is a vibrant, eclectic suburb and is just one suburb from the city centre. Once working class there have been enormous changes in the last 15+ years with new houses (Hodgson House included!) vying for position with small workers cottages, mansions and converted factory warehouses giving it a vibrancy and excitement which the outer suburbs just can't offer. It is changing daily. Shopping, cafes, restaurants and markets are right on the doorstep.

We'll provide a list of suggested restaurants - within walking distance - for you on your arrival. After all why not have a holiday rather than slaving over a hot stove or barbeque!

Do come and stay.

about

Hazeldon House

Tucked behind a gorgeous hawthorn hedge with sweeping views directly to Mt Macedon, Hazeldon House is situated in the hamlet of Tylden and is just 10 minutes to either Woodend, Trentham or Kyneton. You can feel the fresh country air the moment you step from your car. Do come and stay!

Pretty Hazeldon is light, spacious and stylishly decorated. It has a generous open plan kitchen/living area with double bi-fold doors opening to the verandah overlooking an expansive lawn - with room to kick a footy! Hazeldon is a new build so no creaking floorboards, difficult plumbing or wind whizzing through the cracks!

Enjoy a coffee in the morning sun and a drink at the end of the day watching the big sky sunset. It's such a lovely home to relax after a day exploring the region. Or as one of our guests said 'it's a lovely place to roll a sausage on the barbeque at the end of the day' (don't you love that expression!)

Sleeping up to 6, there are three beautifully presented bedrooms - a queen bed, a double bed and 2 single beds. There are 2 bathrooms one with walk in rainhead shower and toilet and the other with deep bath/shower. There is a separate toilet and a modern laundry.

Settle in and relax in one of the comfortable couches or enjoy a long lazy brunch or dinner at the lovely French Provincial dining table while you plan your next excursion. Light the fire (or turn on the air conditioner!) and with a drink in hand 'cook up a storm' in "the most generously equipped kitchen with everything you could possibly require" as one of our guests described.

You'll find provisions in the walk-in pantry and we'll provide you with tea, coffee, sugar and milk.

The small hamlet of Tylden - at the fork in the road - is 10 minutes to just about EVERYWHERE! It's perfectly located to explore the surrounding towns and tourist attractions. We call it 10 x 10 x 10! We love that it is just 10 minutes to pretty Woodend, or 10 minutes to Kyneton and the famed Pipers Street or 10 minutes to Trentham where a visit to Annie Smithers Du Fermier Restaurant is on so many guest lists (book early!) And the local General Store sells just about everything from papers, to milk, to alcohol, to petrol!

Visit the local wineries, play golf, take a drive to Daylesford or Castlemaine (both about 30 minutes away) visit magnificent Mt Macedon and eerie Hanging Rock (watch the DVD of the movie you'll find in the 'library' before you go and we'll even tell you which road to travel where you feel you are not going forward or backward!) Browse the variety of craft and farmers markets that pop up throughout the region. These are just a few of the pleasures that await your visit to Hazeldon.

We love dogs (sadly ours are long departed!) and are happy for you to bring your favourite pet with you - after discussion with us. There is an additional cost of $10 per night. Please note that the property does not have gates or secure fencing at the front of the property.
